Purchased this book for a college class and was disappointed to discover that the file has a number of bugs. There were several pages that were unreadable (I had to highlight the text, turn it into an annotation, and read it from the annotations screen). Other pages couldn't be read unless you zoomed in on the text. I have a newer iPad with all the latest software updates, so I was able to confirm that it is NOT a hardware issue - just a really awful file that should be better for the price paid. I was also disappointed that none of the embedded content (which links to additional resources, comprehension checks, etc.) was included. I felt this was a really poor job on the product description since the REVEL section seems to imply that you're getting the digital content access. Finally, this book was REALLY ableist. I get that we are learning how different students' disabilities require different educational techniques and supports to foster success in the classroom, but apart from the occasional paragraph on how disabled students “have many positive qualities,” there was very little to suggest that these students are anything more than pathology and deficits. While the book does give nod to Deaf culture, it does not provide a discussion of disability culture on the whole and it frequently uses functioning labels and euphemisms (I lost track of how many times I’ve read “special needs”). The discussion on autism is almost entirely deficits based and says noting about the neurodiversity movement. If you are reading this text for a class, I highly recommend that you also look for disabled adult voices (Haben Girma, Alice Wong, Andrew Pulrang, Lawrence Carter-Long -- the list goes on) to temper some of the medical model philosophy presented in this text. I just rented this book for a course, for which it is very important that I do the learning checks and watch the videos that supposedly come with this textbook. I have accessed this on Kindle for PC and on Kindle Fire so far, and NONE of the embedded checks, quizzes, or video links work. They are simply unclickable. There is no information anywhere that I can see on how these can be made accessible. I just paid good money for this electronic textbook, when I could have gotten the exact same incomplete information by using a library hard copy. There is a website that accompanies the textbook, but it costs three times as much as the textbook rental and I don't even see any information on what that site contains and whether buying access to it will solve my problem. This is my first time working with a Pearson online edition and I am deeply disappointed. I'm used to shoddy online products from other publishers. I thought you guys at least had your act together.
